Is your dining room delicious and delectable or a dining room disaster?
Have you noticed that many restaurants and dinning rooms tend to use red? Red is believed to energise and help stir up an appetite. However, you must be very cautious when choosing the shade of red as it can give off the wrong mood and affect the vibe dramatically. Think about the size, shape and amount of natural light in the room and this will help you decide the right shade of colour. Other colours which work very well include orange and yellow (which give a bright and airy feel) as well as blue (which gives the affect of light, cleaniness).
Work it
You don't need to paint all the walls. Painting one wall can create the needed atmosphere, and by having coloured additions such as a painting, vase or coloured furniture can improve the character of the room dramatically. If you don't have a separate dining room, any of these can also help achieve a “segregated” area. Now-a-days, there are some great wall-papers so don't forget to look in this section of the DIY store!
Lighting
Lighting drastically changes the atmosphere and mood in the room - just as going into a fully lit cinema can ruin the mood of the film, bright lights do not always work the best in the dinning room either. Down-lighters create a warm glow throughout the whole room rather than just in one spot. Alternatively, try using lamps and up-lighters with dimmers. Having a mix of lighting will encourage variety and intensity and this can help you encourage the mood of the room positively, which can also depend on who your guests are!
