Louise’s Northern Rock-Solid Design Scheme

 

I asked Louise Begley to tell me about one of her favourite design jobs, which I’m going to share with you now:
 
“I was invited to pitch for a show house interior design for property developers Crosby  Homes. Ellerlise Lodge is a two bedroom detached house set within the grounds of a Victorian mansion house in Altrincham, Manchester.
 
My interior scheme was successful against two other companies due to its ‘wow’ factor design whilst maintaining an individual sophisticated modern interior that would appeal to any prospective purchaser. We provided and installed all the furniture, lighting, fixtures, fittings, soft furnishings and bespoke artwork.
 
During the design installation the grounds surrounding the property remained a muddy building site, with landscapers frantically planting flowers and creating instant gardens, whilst contractors hung doors and painted walls around us.
Our main concern during installation was to keep the cream carpet clean from footprints and to avoid any breakages. We laid empty cardboard boxes throughout the property and even on the footpath that led up to the front door. We then had the repetitive task of removing our shoes each time we or anyone else entered the property, so we were not very popular with the contractors.

The architecture of the cottage meant that it had character before we even started styling, so our job was made very easy and became a delightful project to work on. During the opening weekend the show house was such a success it sold within two days to a young lady who could not even move in for another six months whilst the mansion was being built around the show house. All in all it was a very pleasurable project for all who worked on it.”
